Hints, one board at a time

Welcome back, puzzler. Quordle #1,681 for Tuesday, September 1, 2026 is live: 4 five-letter words, solved together with 9 shared guesses across every board. If yesterday's board gave you trouble, today is a fresh set of 4.

Here's how this page works: the five hints below spread letters across all four boards before naming the hardest one, so reveal them one at a time and stop the moment you have a plan. All 4 answers sit in the green box further down, locked behind a tap. Nothing here reveals itself on its own, not a single letter and not one of the four words.

Letters across all four boards, then the toughest one named. Stop when you have a plan.

1 First lettersWhat letter does each of the 4 words start with? Word 1 starts with N, Word 2 with R, Word 3 with A, and Word 4 with M.
2 Last lettersWhat letter does each of the 4 words end with? Word 1 ends with L, Word 2 with E, Word 3 with E, and Word 4 with T.
3 Vowel countsHow many different vowels does each word carry? Word 1: 1 vowel (A). Word 2: 3 vowels (O, U, E). Word 3: 2 vowels (A, E). Word 4: 1 vowel (I).
4 Shared lettersDo any letters show up in all 4 words at once? Not today. No single letter appears in all 4 words at once, though several show up in two or three of them (see the word notes below once you reveal the board).
5 Today's toughest boardWhich of the 4 boards is likely to slow you down most? Bottom right (Word 4) rates hard on our difficulty scale, thanks to an unusual -HT ending.

Drumroll, please…

Quordle strategy that actually helps

Proven habits from top solvers, useful today and every day.

Use your first guesses for information

Unlike Wordle, you can't chase one word early. Spend your first 3 to 4 guesses testing as many different letters as possible across all 4 boards.

Solve the easiest board first

After a few information guesses, one board usually has more green and yellow than the rest. Pivot there. Finishing it early frees up guesses for the other three.

Every guess hits all 4 boards

A word that solves one board still gives you color feedback on the other three. Nine guesses for four words leaves no room for a guess that only serves one board.

Don't guess blind after 7

With only 9 guesses total, your last two need to be precise. When one board narrows to a few candidates, check whether a guess can close it and probe another.

Watch for shared letters

When two boards share a letter, a word containing it does double duty. A letter that appears on three boards does three jobs for the price of one guess.

Know your modes

Daily Quordle gives 9 guesses. Quordle Chill relaxes that to 12. Quordle Extreme cuts it to 8. New to the multi-board flow? Start with Chill.

How we rate each board's difficulty

Each of the 4 words is scored the same way we score Wordle: how common its letters are in everyday English, whether any letter repeats, and whether its ending follows a familiar pattern. The toughest board on any given day is the one most likely to cost you guesses.

Easy

An everyday word with a common pattern. Most solvers clear it fast.

Medium

Familiar enough, but it will not fall out of a coverage guess.

Hard

Uncommon letters or a repeated one. Expect it to eat extra guesses.

Very hard

The board that eats your last guesses. Rare letters or a repeated one. This is where streaks die.

How to play Quordle

The rules in full, for anyone arriving without them.

Quordle is four Wordles played at once on a single keyboard. Every guess you type is scored against all four hidden words simultaneously, and you have nine guesses to finish all four boards.

  1. 1 Type one guess, score four boards

A single five-letter guess appears on every board at the same time and gets its own coloring on each.

  2. 2 Spend the first two guesses on coverage

With nine guesses for four words, the opening pair should cover ten different common letters rather than try to solve anything.

  3. 3 Finish the board you know most about

Once a board has three or four greens, close it out. A solved board stops competing for your remaining guesses.

  4. 4 Land all four within nine guesses

Nine guesses for four words means an average of just over two per board, so wasted turns are expensive.

Resets

Midnight in your local timezone

The instinct to solve the easiest board first is the one that loses games. Guesses two and three should be pure letter coverage even when one board is nearly done, because information spent early pays off on all four.

Quordle, answered

Quick answers to the questions we get every day.

What time does the new Quordle come out?

Quordle resets at midnight in your local timezone, wherever you are. All four answers below come from the same daily seed, so a matching date means matching boards.

Is Quordle harder than Wordle?

Yes, by design. You're solving 4 words at once with only 9 shared guesses instead of Wordle's 6 guesses for 1 word, so there's much less room to waste a guess on a wrong idea.

Can I play past Quordle puzzles?

Quordle doesn't offer an official archive. Our past answers table below carries all four words for each day we have covered.

Does a wrong guess cost me on all four boards?

It costs you a turn, which is the only currency in the game. Guesses are shared, so one word consumes one of your nine attempts across every board at once. That is what makes an early coverage word efficient and a wild stab expensive: the stab burns a guess on four boards, not one.

What's a good Quordle opening?

Pick 3 or 4 starting words that together cover as many common, unique letters as possible, like CRANE, FLUBS, MIGHT, and PODGY. See our strategy tips above.
