Today's Wordle Answer
Stuck on puzzle #1,901? You're in the right place. Take the hints one rung at a time, or drop straight to the word. Nothing spoils until you tap.
Hints, one at a time
Welcome back, puzzler. Wordle #1,901 for Wednesday, September 2, 2026 is live, and it rates Medium on our difficulty scale, thanks to a repeated letter, which is easy to miss. If yesterday's REMIX tripped you up, today is a chance to protect that streak.
Here's how this page works: the five hints below start with the letter pattern and end with every consonant in the word, so reveal them one at a time and stop the moment something clicks. The full answer sits in the green box further down, locked behind a tap. Nothing here reveals itself on its own, not one letter and not the word.
Five rungs, gentlest first. Stop the moment you can see the word.
Drumroll, please…

About today's word RULER
Starts with R, ends with R, and carries 2 vowels (U, E) against 3 consonant slots.
Our scale weighs how common the letters are and how guessable the shape is. This one has a repeated letter, which is easy to miss.
Worth 5 points in Scrabble before any bonus squares.

Wordle strategy that actually helps
Proven habits from top solvers, useful today and every day.
CRANE, SLATE, AUDIO and RAISE cover the most common letters in one guess.
Every answer has at least one of A, E, I, O, U. Finding them first narrows things fast.
Gray means gone. Spend each new guess on fresh letters instead of repeating eliminated ones.
Right letter, wrong spot. Try it in a different position next guess, never the same one twice.
Stuck with four greens? The missing letter may already be on the board twice (VIVID, ALLAY).
Many answers end in -ER, -LY, -ED or -ING. Let known letters suggest the pattern.
How we rate Wordle difficulty
Each puzzle is scored automatically from the answer itself: how common its letters are in everyday English, whether any letter repeats, and whether its ending follows a familiar pattern. The result lands on a four-step scale:
An everyday word with a common pattern. Most solvers finish in 3.
A word you know, but not one you'd open with. Typically 4 guesses.
Uncommon letters or a repeated one. Expect 5 guesses and some sweat.
Obscure vocabulary or a cruel pattern like -ATCH. Streaks die here.
How to play Wordle
The rules in full, for anyone arriving without them.
Wordle is a daily word game from The New York Times where you have six tries to guess one hidden five-letter word. Everyone in the world gets the same word on the same day, which is why your result grid means something when you share it.
- 1 Guess any real five-letter word
Your first guess is free information. It does not need to be clever, it needs to be a valid word with letters you want to test.
- 2 Read the colors
Green means the letter is correct and in the right position. Yellow means the letter is in the word but somewhere else. Gray means the letter is not in the word at all.
- 3 Spend each guess on new information
Carry your greens forward, move your yellows to a different slot, and never reuse a gray letter. A guess that repeats what you already know is a wasted turn.
- 4 Land it within six tries
Solve it and your streak survives. Miss on the sixth guess and the answer is revealed, and the streak resets to zero.

One five-letter word, six guess rows
6 guesses, no mistakes allowed after that
Midnight in your local timezone
The habit that matters most: treat guesses two and three as elimination tools rather than attempts to win. Solvers who try to guess the answer early average more turns than solvers who methodically clear letters first.
Wordle, answered
Quick answers to the questions we get every day.
What time does the new Wordle come out?
Wordle resets at midnight in your local timezone, wherever you are. If the puzzle number in the hero matches the one in your app, you are looking at today's.
Is Wordle getting harder?
The NYT says the answer list hasn't changed in difficulty, but ratings show streaky patches: runs of easy weeks broken by brutal ones. What has changed: the answer list is curated by an editor, so obscure plurals and offensive words no longer appear.
Can I play past Wordle puzzles?
Yes. The NYT's Wordle Archive lets NYT Games subscribers replay every previous puzzle. Our past answers table below covers recent answers if you just want to check one.
What happens to my streak if I miss a day?
Missing a day resets your streak to zero, and there is no way to backfill it: solving an old puzzle from the Archive does not repair a broken streak. Your max streak stat is kept separately, so a great run is still recorded even after the current one ends.
What's the best Wordle starting word?
Statistically, openers like CRANE, SLATE and SALET eliminate the most possibilities. Any two-vowel, common-consonant word puts you on track for a 4-guess average. See our strategy tips above.
